Is sign-in required?
No. Etymology is designed to work without a user account for normal lookup, history, and favorites flows.
Why do I see privacy or ad prompts?
Ads help support word lookups and app updates. Etymology uses platform consent tools before requesting ads where required.
Can I use previous lookups offline?
Previously looked-up words can be cached locally for later reading. New AI-assisted lookups require a network connection.
Does the website look up every word live?
No. The website shows published MDX and reviewed editorial word pages. Words that are not in that library hand off to the Etymology mobile app for additional lookups.
Where are privacy and legal details?
Read the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use for details about published website content, app AI-assisted lookups, ads, diagnostics, and app store terms.
How do I delete my data?
You can clear local app data from Settings or uninstall the app. For identifiable server-side service or support data, follow the Data Deletion instructions.
