Data deletion
Etymology does not require an account. You can remove data stored on your device yourself, and you can ask us to delete identifiable server-side data that we can reasonably locate.
Delete data stored on your device
In the app, remove individual favorites or use the data controls in Settings to clear history and cached results. Uninstalling the app removes its remaining local data from that device, including the app-generated analytics identifier. Withdrawing the applicable analytics consent in the app stops that explicit identifier from being attached to future analytics events. Website form entries are not saved as an Etymology account.
Request server-side deletion
Email us with the subject “Etymology Data Deletion Request”. Include the platform you used, an approximate date range, your country, and any support email address or request details that can help us locate the data. Do not send passwords, advertising IDs, or unnecessary private information.

We may ask for limited information to verify and locate your request. We will respond within the period required by applicable law. Some security, fraud-prevention, transaction, or legal records may be retained where the law permits or requires it. Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics 4, Sentry, advertising, and infrastructure records that can reasonably be linked to the information you provide will be included in the search. Data that has already been aggregated or de-identified, or that cannot reasonably be linked to you, may not be identifiable for individual deletion.
